Mission

On October 3, 1998, Moveable Feast Lexington (MFL) began delivering hot nutritious meals daily to people living with HIV disease in Lexington/Fayette County Kentucky - all completely free of charge. Since then MFL has delivered over 600,551 meals. Our mission is to deliver to the door a hot, nutritious meal five days a week to low-income people in Lexington-Fayette County who have HIV/AIDS and those under the care of Bluegrass Care Navigators (formerly Hospice of the Bluegrass). We also feed their caregivers and dependent children. We are feeding some of the sickest and most vulnerable folks in our community, and we need your help to accomplish our mission.  This is the default content that gets added when you create a new section. Studies have shown those with HIV/AIDS who receive good nutrition are more  likely to stay on their medications. Staying on medications means a person will likely carry an undetectable viral load and is unable to transmit the virus to someone else which helps reduce community spread. This leads to an overall healthier patient, who has much fewer hospital stays and is more likely to work.
For the families on Hospice Care, our goal is to keep the families together, rather than requiring moves to hospice facilities or nursing
homes.

Testimonials

" A lot of my friends are gone and I feel like God gave Michael Thompson enough time to put Moveable Feast together."

- Alfreda Bart, First Client

"Moveable Feast is not ever bogged down with bureaucracy-if you call up and say I need food, you will have a delivery that night. Before they've even met you or know anything about you, they will make sure you have a meal that night that's refreshing that there's still that feeling of activism, all you have to do is give them an address."

-Robert Morgan, Board Member

" You save $41,000 a year if you prevent hospitalization-it's preventable by people maintaining their health. The cost-benefit is huge but people don't think about that when they're judging us. They just think we're bringing food to a bunch of HIV people. It's so much more than that."
